Why you need it

Clean, accurate selection prevents missed gears, protects the parking pawl, and ensures the engine starts only in Park/Neutral. It also keeps the indicator on the cluster truthful and reduces wear on cables and the selector shaft.

How it works

Inside are detent springs, a position sensor, and a robust lever cam. Your hand movement becomes exact cable travel and matching electrical signals. Seals keep grease in and grit out, while the interlock logic talks to the starter circuit and reverse lamps.

What happens if it fails ❗

Symptoms include hard or sloppy shifting, stuck in gear, no-crank in Park/Neutral, wrong gear shown, reverse lights dead, or harsh engagement. Continued use can stretch cables, wear the selector shaft, and risk internal transmission damage—often ending in a tow.

Tech tips

Set the lever to Neutral, align the module marks, torque mounts evenly, verify cable bushings, and perform a position/relearn with a scan tool when required.
