Engine Piston Assembly with Pin

How it works

The piston moves up and down inside the cylinder bore. During compression it squeezes the air/fuel mix, then combustion pushes it down with high force. That movement goes through the wrist pin to the connecting rod and crankshaft. The piston grooves hold rings that control compression and oil, while the skirt keeps the piston guided and reduces slap.

Why replacement matters

If the piston is cracked, scuffed, melted, or the pin bore is worn, you may get low compression, blue smoke, heavy blow-by, misfire, knocking, and rising oil use. In severe cases it can score the cylinder, damage rings, bend rods, and destroy the engine—often without much warning ⚠️.
