OEM Crankshaft Main Bearing Kit for Reliable Bottom-End Power βοΈ
Why this part is needed
This kit restores precise oil clearance between the crankshaft and engine block. Install it during overhaul, when fixing knock, or if oil pressure drops. Fresh shells stop metal-to-metal contact, stabilize idle, and protect the engine on long trips and heavy loads. Perfect for keeping tough work and off-road vehicles dependable.
How it works ?
Semi-circular shells sit in the block and cap, creating a low-friction surface around the crank journals. A tri-metal build (steel back, copper/lead layer, babbitt overlay) plus oil grooves holds a strong oil film and centers the crank. Correct crush fit locks the shells; oil holes align to feed pressurized oil for cooling and lubrication.
What happens if itβs worn or broken ?
Clearance grows, oil pressure falls, and the crank can move. You may hear cold-start rattle or hot idle knock, see glitter in oil, and get a pressure warning. Left unchecked, a shell can spin, scoring journals and seizing the engineβoften destroying block and crank.
Tech notes and tips
- OE geometry and thickness, color-grade matched; ref 12207 06J11
- Measure journals; plastigauge target 0.02β0.05 mm
- Align oil holes; use assembly lube; torque/angle caps to spec
- Do not mix shell sizes on the same journal
Compatibility
- Safari
- Civilian
- Patrol
