LINK ASSY, WINDSHIELD WIPER

Windshield Wiper Linkage Assembly
This linkage assembly is the mechanical “bridge” between the wiper motor and the two wiper arms. It’s needed to convert the motor’s rotary motion into the smooth back-and-forth sweep that clears rain, mud, and road film for safe visibility ️.
How It Works
Inside the cowl area, a set of pivot joints and connecting rods transfers force from the motor crank to each wiper spindle. The geometry keeps both blades synchronized, maintains correct sweep angle, and prevents binding when the windshield is wet or under load from heavy snow.
Why Replacement Matters
Over time, joints can wear, bushings can loosen, and the linkage can develop play. When that happens, the motor may still run but the blades won’t move correctly. A tight, properly aligned linkage helps reduce motor strain and keeps wipe pattern consistent for better driver sight lines.
Symptoms of a Bad Linkage
- Wipers move slowly, unevenly, or stop mid-sweep
- One wiper works while the other lags or doesn’t move
- Clunking/clicking under the cowl area
- Wiper motor runs but arms don’t sweep
What Happens If It’s Broken
A failed linkage can cause total wiper loss, poor windshield clearing, and potential damage to the wiper motor from overload. In bad weather, that can quickly become a safety risk ⚠️.
